Just like many others during this time period, the two are unfortunate because they have no tools, stock, equipment, or garden. They are like so many others who lived during the depression because many could not afford what they needed to make a living. This man was unable to buy the necessities he needed to tend to his crops. This picture also shows how their house was worn down and in need of repair. People living during this time could not afford to repair their houses and other things such as nice clothing, shoes, nice meals, and others. This couple probably had to hope for the best and did what they could just to survive in those harsh times.
